GM’s newest sports car, the 2017 Chevy Camaro ZL1 will blow your mind with its raw power and track capability. The Camaro ZL1 is anything but typical with its supercharged 6.2-liter V8 cranking out an estimated 640 horsepower and 640 pound-feet of torque. All of this power is thanks to GM’s long-awaited 10-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters. The ZL1 will be offered with a standard 6-speed transmission as well.
2017 Chevy Camaro ZL1 Performance
The powertrain is impressive with its high output, but the chassis is also responsible for the ZL1’s performance. It has a Magnetic Ride suspension, electronic limited-slip differential, and performance traction management. It cruises on 20-inch forged aluminum wheels wrapped in Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar tires with a special compound developed specifically for the ZL1. Stopping comes from six-piston Brembos with two-piece rotors.
2017 Camaro ZL1 Exterior
The exterior of the ZL1 is as much about aerodynamics as it is about style. The larger grille and the “flow-tie” (a cut out of the legendary Chevy bow tie) provide more airflow than in previous models. The ZL1 also features new hood with a carbon-fiber insert, a larger front splitter, and a rear wing. Wider fenders and exclusive rocker panels accentuate the aggressive and sporty look. The cabin features Recaro seats, a suede flat-bottom steering wheel, and an optional Performance Data Recorder. Other unique features include 11 heat exchangers to cool the powertrain, a drive-mode selector, and dual-mode exhaust. This tough car has it all!
Camaro ZL1 Handling
While the ZL1 is more powerful and more sophisticated than other generations, it will weigh much less. Chevy estimates the ZL1 will be 200 pounds lighter than its predecessors thanks to the Camaro’s lighter frame that promises better handling.
If you are in the market for a new sports car, then the ZL1 will be available later this year. Until then, come see our selection of current Camaros here at Davis Chevrolet in Houston, Texas!
