When you are looking to purchase a pickup truck you probably aren’t anticipating good fuel economy, but the 2016 Chevy Silverado with eAssist now has a 13% increase in fuel economy.
To create eAssist, Chevrolet borrowed some designs and ideas from their line of electric cars including the Malibu Hybrid and the Volt. Chevy built a mild-hybrid electrical system for the Silverado with an electric motor that adds 13 horsepower and 44 lb. ft. of torque to the truck’s power output. The new hybrid engine will drastically reduce costs at the pump.
The eAssist system’s compact lithium-ion battery pack, combined with the Silverado’s 5.3L V8 and 8-speed automatic transmission, give the Silverado 1500 crew cab and electric power boost, this adds 13 horsepower and 44 lb-ft of torque which enhances the Silverado’s acceleration during passing. Active Fuel Management allows the V8 to operate in four-cylinder mode for longer stretches of time during operation. All of these things help with fuel-economy.
EAssist also has stop/start capability. This means that eAssist will turn off the Silverado’s V8 engine off when you’re stopped in traffic and turning it back on when you accelerate. This is another inventive way to boost the Silverado’s fuel economy. The Silverado with eAssist also comes with a regenerative braking system. This means that Energy recovered while braking will be converted to electricity to recharge the onboard battery system using the eAssist technology. This is a innovative way to increase fuel economy.
If you are in the market for a pickup truck then don’t settle for terrible fuel efficiency. With the 2016 Chevy Silverado you don’t have to sacrifice fuel economy. That 13 percent increase in city fuel economy converts into a 2-mpg increase, bringing the 2016 Silverado eAssist’s city fuel economy rating to 18 mpg*.
